Over 10.132 million bales of cotton have arrived in 2017-18 season at various ginneries in Pakistan, as on December 1, 2017, up 3.62 per cent over arrival of 9.778 million bales during the corresponding period of last season, according to the latest fortnightly report on cotton arrivals, released by Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA).

The West Bengal directorate of textiles recently decided to set up a mega carpet cluster at Malgaon village in Kaliaganj block of West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district where weavers have been stitching Banarasi-style carpets since the 1980s with little recognition. Work will start after the government approves the nearly-complete detailed project report.
About 300 women weave carpets in that village at present under the Malgaon Handloom Cluster Development Society, formed in 2009.
