Pakistan textile exports witnessed plunge of 6.38 percent in December 2014 despite the availability of GSP Plus scheme. The major factors behind the substantial drop in exports are energy shortage and lack of working capital.
According to the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) details, the country exported textile goods worth $1.175 billion in December against exports of $1.255 billion in the same month of previous year.

Carpet exports have fallen despite free market access to Pakistan’s textile products in EU countries under the GSP-Plus status.

A group of US-based garment retailers has threatened to shift work orders from Bangladesh to other destinations if political deadlock does not end soon, BGMEA President Atiqul Islam said yesterday.

The Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new National Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) Policy aimed at revitalising and boosting the development and growth of the country’s cotton, textile and garment industry.
Launching the policy in Abuja, minister of industry, trade and investment Olusegun Aganga said the policy was a product of prolonged and comprehensive consultations with all stakeholders in the industry, and it has set a target of achieving US$ 3 billion annually from textile exports.
