Recent monsoon rains hit cotton quality slightly, causing increase in prices, dealers said on Tuesday. The official spot rate, after maintaining stable trend, showed an improvement of Rs 50 to Rs 6,600, they said. Prices of seed cotton per 40-kg in Sindh and Punjab fell by Rs 150 to Rs 2,700-3,850, they said. In the ready session, approx. 15,000 bales of cotton changed hands, between Rs 6,650-6,700, they said.

ICE cotton gained on Tuesday in heavy trading as a speculator-driven rally and worry over tight supplies in the United States, the world's top exporter, lifted fibre to a near five-month high. The most-active December cotton contract on ICE Futures US closed up 1.64 cent, or 1.8 percent, at 91.72 cents per lb after rallying to 92.54 cents.

Dependence on imported raw materials would be the biggest challenge to the Vietnamese garment industry when the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) comes into force possibly by the end of this year, according to experts.
The TPP's rule of origin requires nations to use a TPP member- produced yarn in textiles in order to receive duty-free access.
Vietnam's garment and textile industry remains reliant on imported raw materials from many countries, which are not TPP members, including China.
