Iran’s crude oil exports in March may plunge by a quarter from a month earlier to the lowest since tight Western sanctions came into effect in 2012, industry sources said, squeezing income for Tehran as sanctions cast doubt over its future revenues.
The fall may result in a revenue loss of about $1 billion for Iran, according to Reuters calculations based on current oil prices, just as the country’s parliament debates President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s spending proposals.

Police detained five activists from the Clean Clothes Campaign last Tuesday who were meeting workers at a protest outside a clothing factory near Phnom Penh. The workers were on strike because 41 workers had been illegally dismissed for unionizing. While striking the workers have faced police brutality and seven have been beaten by company affiliated thugs using a stick with nails in it.

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has asked the Centre to allow duty-free import of yarn like cotton.
Observing that the recent increase in cotton and yarn prices have put additional burden on the industry, AEPC Chairman A. Sakthivel said in a statement: “Garment is a critical sector in terms of 11.22 million workers employed in this sector.’’
“I request the Government to allow duty-free import of yarn, as they have allowed for import of cotton for yarn manufacturers,” he said.

Government today said it is not considering imposing ban on imports of used clothes.
Under the Customs Tariff Act 2012-13, worn clothing and other worn articles attracts a standard rate of import duty of 10 per cent, Minister of State for Textile Panabaaka Lakshmi said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
She said import duty protects domestic industry from losses.
