Many businesses, notably garment factories, are failing to comply with an increase in the minimum wage paid to workers, which came into effect on January 1.
The government announced that the monthly minimum wage would increase from 348,000 kip to 626,000 kip.
The announcement stated that an unskilled worker must be paid a monthly minimum wage of 626,000 kip together with any supporting allowances previously received, such as for lunch, good performance and social welfare benefits.

Cotton farmers in Tamil Nadu have been advised to take up sowing of suitable varieties of the white fibre this season (Masipattam – February – March).

Global cotton production will exceed demand by 1.15 million metric tons in the 12 months starting Aug. 1, Cotlook Inc. said in its first forecast for next season.
The surplus will be 3.54 million tons this season, Birkenhead, U.K.-based Cotlook, the publisher of a benchmark cotton index, said today in a statement.

Cotton posted its largest one-day loss in nearly a month on Thursday, as prices corrected down from the nine-month highs reached earlier this week and as declining oil and grain prices pressured fiber.
The most-active May cotton contract on ICE Futures U.S. fell 1.23 cents, or 1.5 percent, to settle at 83.23 cents per pound. That was fiber's largest decline since falling about 2 percent on Jan. 25.
Though prices rebounded after earlier touching as low as 83 cents, they failed to approach the
