To prevent the duplication of fake goods in local market, the Union Textiles Ministry has decided to brand handlooms and is thinking of giving the industry a heritage label. The Iranian hand-woven carpets worth $197 million have been exported in the first six months, this year. Germany and United States topped as buyers sharing 63 percent of the total exports. However, carpet exports have seen a 5.6 percent drop against previous year.Notably, the handicraft export crossed $262,000,000 mark at 14 percent, this year, which include hand-woven carpets also.After hand-woven carpets, turquoise and precious stones were the second largest exported products for this year.

GENEVA - Job losses from the lifting of global trade quotas in the textile industry have been lower than forecast, the U.N. labor agency said Monday.
