Chinese Customs authorities revealed that polyester output for August on year to year basis rose 16.30 percent.At 16.30 percent, the polyester production went up to 1.37 million tons.However, this was down 2 percent from July, this year.Key polyster production areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang accounted for 959,500 tons, that is 70 percent of country's output. While the traditional weaving sector continued its shrinking spell in 2005, total weaving industry output was bolstered by the specialty segment. The U.S. textile industry asked the Bush administration on Thursday to extend emergency import curbs on billions of dollars of clothing from China beyond 2005, U.S. industry officials said.
"The reason we need to do this is because China is refusing to negotiate seriously on a comprehensive bilateral" textile agreement, said Cass Johnson, president of the National Council of Textile Organizations.
