Cotton futures fell on Wednesday despite a sharply weaker dollar and strength elsewhere in the commodity complex as investors hesitated to increase long positions ahead of the looming index fund roll, when large funds move positions forward from the front-month. "They don't have a long time to build up a significant long," said Louis Rose, independent cotton trader and consultant with Risk Analytics in Memphis, Tennessee.

Cotton futures rose for the second consecutive session on Tuesday amid concerns about crop damage and acreage reduction in South Asia, as the market continued to grapple with low supplies of high-quality cotton after a stormy US harvest season. "We still have strong demand for high-grade cotton," said Keith Brown, a Moultrie, Georgia-based cotton broker.
Production in India, the world's largest cotton producer, is likely to fall 3.6 percent to 35.2 million bales in the 2015/16 crop year, a s

Cotton futures surged on Monday to their highest single-session gains in two weeks, lifted by a weaker dollar and end-user buying at low price levels and bucking a rout across most commodities. Still, prices remained within the same tight range they have been trading in for months.
"They're not chasing it higher," said Chris Kramedjian, a risk management consultant with INTL FCStone in Nashville, Tennessee, noting that physical buying evaporated at the upper end of the day's range. "We're st

Cotton futures fell on Friday on pressure from sharp gains in the US dollar, a lack of clarity over China's potential plans to reduce its massive cotton stockpile, and data showing a drop in US export sales. "What's pressuring it is the dollar and the uncertainty," said Peter Egli, director of risk management at British merchant Plexus cotton.
March cotton on ICE Futures US settled down 0.23 cent, or 0.37 percent, at 61.13 cents per lb. It traded within a range of 60.76 and 61.89. US export

Cotton futures fell for the third straight session on Wednesday to touch their lowest level in nearly four months, bucking an overall positive trend across commodities as investors remained concerned about a potential auction of China's massive stockpile.
"It's still long spec liquidation," said Rogers Varner, president of Varner Brokerage in Cleveland, Mississippi, noting that speculators were continuing to reduce their net long position in the fibre. March cotton on ICE Futures US settled
